From Hand-Drawn Diagrams to a Digital Drill Library: One Coach's Story

Marco coaches four age groups on a volunteer basis. He needed something faster than sketching by hand and cheaper than enterprise coaching software.

From Hand-Drawn Diagrams to a Digital Drill Library: One Coach's Story

Marco Diaz volunteers as head coach across U8, U10, U12, and U14 at a community grassroots club. He has been coaching for six years. He has never had a budget for software.

"I was drawing sessions on A4 paper the night before training. Every week, starting from scratch. I had no library, no record of what I had run before. If I wanted to reuse a drill from three months ago, I had to try to remember it."

Running four age groups means four different session plans each week. The time it took was unsustainable.

"I was spending close to two hours on session prep every week. That is a lot of time for a volunteer."

Starting Free

Marco started on the free plan. He wanted to see whether the pitch canvas was actually faster than paper before committing to anything.

"I built my first drill in about four minutes. The same drill would have taken me fifteen minutes to draw, photograph, and send. That was enough for me."

He upgraded to Pro after two weeks — $3.25 a month on the annual plan.

"For what it does, that is nothing."

The AI Generator

The feature Marco uses most is the AI drill generator. He describes what he wants to train — age group, number of players, focus area, duration — and the AI produces a structured drill as a starting point.

"I will say something like: a transition drill for U14s, focused on counter-press, eight players, ten minutes. It gives me a structure — setup, player positions, movement instructions. I edit the layout on the canvas, adjust the conditions, add my own coaching points."

"It is not doing the thinking for me. It is solving the blank canvas problem. That is the hard part."

He uses the same approach across all four age groups, adapting the output for different ages and player numbers.

The Numbers

  • Session prep time: Down from ~120 minutes per week to ~20 minutes
  • Age groups coached: 4 (U8, U10, U12, U14)
  • Drills in library: 60+ across all age groups
  • Plan: Pro (annual)

The Outcome

"I run four age groups. The AI gives me a starting point for each one. I spend maybe twenty minutes on session prep now instead of two hours." — Marco Diaz, Youth Development Coach
