6v6 Three-Goal Width Game

Instructions

1. Set up a 40×30m playing area with three small goals (1m wide) evenly spaced across each end-line, 5m apart. 2. Divide players into two teams of six wearing different bibs; assign three defenders to each goal on their end-line. 3. Begin with a ball in midfield; teams attack the three opposing goals but may only score after a switch of play to the opposite flank within that possession. 4. If a goal is scored without a prior switch, it does not count; possession reverts to the defending team. 5. Rotate outfield players every 3–4 minutes; defenders stay at their assigned goals throughout.

• Players scan the field and identify the least-defended goal before executing a switch of play. • Attacking team delivers a cross-field or long switch pass that reaches the opposite flank. • Defending team adjusts shape quickly in response to width-focused attacking movements. • Players use short passes to maintain possession while moving the ball laterally toward switch opportunities.

Variations

Position one floating defender in the centre (not assigned to a goal) who can move freely to support any goal when play is central.

Rules

A goal only counts if the attacking team has switched play to the opposite side within the same possession before shooting. Defenders remain assigned to their goal; outfield players rotate every 3–4 minutes. The ball is live after each goal; play restarts from the defending team.
